Think Long-Term, Act Daily

Think Long-Term, Act Daily

We were asked by Linked In's editors for our best goal-setting tip. Here it is.

When we walk our students through our life design course Harness the Power of Planning (https://lnkd.in/gHygKvD4), we talk about focusing on DAILY ACTIVITY rather than LONG-TERM OUTCOME. This is powerful for two reasons:

1) Focusing
on daily ACTIVITY gives you more control. For instance, you might have a goal to make a living as an author. There are a lot of factors in that goal that are outside of your control, but the activity of writing daily is resolutely within it. This is empowering and productive. It forces you to write the darn books, because how many people say they want to be authors and never actually do the writing, let alone get the book published and make enough to money to live off of. To become a professional author, you must write and focusing on that ACTIVITY is the first step towards this long-term OUTCOME.

2) Focusing on DAILY activity reminds you of your goal every day.
Many people write a goal down and then never look at it again. Keep that goal on your mind every day with daily activity and watch your progress.

    Think long-term, but act daily.
